Sessions

Sessions
Our sessions focus on collaboration, creativity and community.
We offer weekly creative sessions which include opportunities for members to develop their potential through socialising, learning new skills, exploring creativity, and performing.
Pieces of performance are developed using a co-creative methodology where the members ideas and creative vision are integral to the outcome.
When and where are sessions?
Sessions are held on Mondays from 1-4 pm at Launceston Town Hall.
What is a session like?
In a session we do a check-in where everyone gets a chance to share how they’re feeling and their news for the week. This is a structured opportunity for everyone to connect and gives our team and members a chance to hear how everyone is doing and about what’s going on in their lives.
We do a physical warm-up using music to move and groove!
Sometimes we play a game or two, other times we get started straight away on performance making or rehearsal! There is approximately a 30 minute break about halfway through where we provide tea/coffee and biscuits in order to recharge for the 2nd half of the session where we’ll be working hard on our performance.
Performance
An Access Theatre show always includes 3 things: Music, Dancing and Laughter.
We’ve made all sorts of things, from shadow puppetry shows to musicals about time travelling. Check out our Shows page for more information.
Support provided
We strive to keep inclusivity and accessibility at the heart of what we do by focusing on our members skills and creating opportunities in sessions and performances for these skills to shine. As much as possible, we work using long performance processes in order to give members time to create and learn pieces and develop skills in their own time. We use visual means of communication (such as PECS) and some Makaton and BSL as needed.
We know that access needs can vary greatly from person to person so when reaching out to join the waiting list, please be clear about what your needs are so that we can accurately assess whether we can enable your participation in the group. As we are a small team, we are unfortunately not able to provide 1 to 1 support or personal care of any kind.

Fees
The cost at the time of publication is £30 per term (we run 3 terms each year) and £5 per session. (2025)
Membership fees are used solely to continue to provide creative opportunities to our community and members and to cover some of our running costs such as staff, space and performance costs. We actively seek funding to cover the rest of our core costs and for additional projects to engage our community further.

Launceston Town Hall is an accessible venue
Our usual venue is Launceston Town Hall that step free access into the hall space where we hold our sessions. We use a wheelchair lift to raise our members with limited mobility or who are wheelchair users onto the stage. Launceston Town Hall has one accessible toilet with grab rails. Parking is available in the multi-storey car park next to the Town Hall.
